According to a news release, the board of COMPASS Family and Community Services (COMPASS) and Community Corrections Association (CCA) have voted to legally reorganize under a single parent organization.

According to the release, the vote was unanimous. The reorganization aims to have both COMPASS and CCA operate as subsidiaries under a single parent organization.

In addition, the release states that the aim of combining the two organization's resources is designed to better meet community, constituent and client needs.

The release clarifies that no services will be relocated and CCA and COMPASS will continue to operate in separate facilities as they currently do.

Additionally, the release states that there are no plans to change any programs, services offered or staff at COMPASS or CCA.

"Merging under this structure means COMPASS and CCA continue to operate under their current names," said Joe Caruso, CEO and President of COMPASS.

Caruso continued," But, we now share the strength and capacity that comes with being part of a larger organization."

A new board will be composed of some members of each of the organizations' current boards. According to the release, the new board will be available to guide the parent organization.

This new parent organization will not be public facing, according to the release, since it is being created for legal, financial and management purposes.

The name of the parent company will be disclosed by the October 1 filing, according to the release.

COMPASS was founded in 1908 and provides programs to care for people from infancy through their senior years, aiming to provide integrated behavioral health and social services, according to the release.

According to the release, CCA, founded in 1974, provides alternative sentencing solutions for adults in the criminal justice system.

"COMPASS and CCA have a long history of successful collaboration," said Dave Stillwagon, Chief Executive Officer of CCA.

Stillwagon continued," So, we have experience that has demonstrated that greater alignment will lead to greater community outcomes."

Stillwagon will remain the Chief Executive Officer of CCA and will assume the role of CEO of COMPASS beginning June 28 through October 1, 2025, according to the release.

According to the release, Stillwagon will also assume the role of CEO in the parent organization after the reorganization is complete in October of 2025.

Caruso will be transitioning to the role of Chief Executive Officer of Mercy Health Behavioral Hospital, according to the release.

According to the release, Caruso initiated the discovery process in 2024 that eventually led to the decision to merge the organizations under a single legal entity.
