YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A Youngstown day care operator pleads guilty to lesser charges after a 4 month old dies in her care.
Deborah Poindexter faced a murder charge after police were called to her Care Bear Day Care on the 3300 block of Lenox Avenue in January.
Poindexter pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and child endangerment just as her jury trial was to begin today.
She originally pleaded not guilty to one count of murder and two counts of endangering children in August.
Poindexter, who ran the day care in her basement, told police the infant, Mekhi Dawson, was lying on the floor of the when Poindexter went upstairs to answer the door.
At that time she told police that she thought a bigger child may have fallen on the baby.
The Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services revoked Poindexter's day care license in May.
She will be sentenced next month.
