EPA approves expansion of Mahoning Landfill
The Ohio EPA has approved a permit to allow expansion of a landfill in Mahoning County.

SPRINGFIELD TWP., Mahoning Co., Ohio - The Ohio EPA has approved a permit to allow expansion of a landfill in Mahoning County.
The permit that will allow both lateral and vertical expansion of the Mahoning Landfill, Inc., a municipal solid waste landfill located at 3510 Garfield Road, New Springfield.
The disposal area is being allowed to expand by 51.6 acres, increasing landfill capacity to 24.11 million cubic yards.
The maximum amount of waste the landfill can accept is increasing from 2,500 to 4,000 tons per day.
Earlier this year, the Mahoning County Commissioners on Thursday approved the agreement which compensates the township for the tons of solid waste that comes into the landfill operation annually.
Issuance of the landfill permit can be appealed to the Ohio Environmental Review Appeals Commission within 30 days.
