It was a busy weekend for some volunteers who are concerned about the safety and health of family pets in the Valley.
The non-profit organization Never Muzzled stopped by 21 fire departments in Mahoning and Trumbull Counties where they delivered pet oxygen mask kits.
Under a new law, first responders in Ohio are now able to provide certain medical services to an injured dog or cat at the scene of an emergency, prior to transferring the animal to a veterinary care facility.
The law also grants immunity to professionals providing animal care.
Mask kits were delivered to fire departments in Bazetta, Bristol, Howland, Brookfield, Hartford, Warren, Vienna, and Weathersfield Townships, as well as McDonald, Newton Falls, Warren, Cortland, Girard, Niles, Mineral Ridge, and McKinley departments.
The kits were also donated to Jackson, Milton, Berlin and Austintown Township fire departments, as well as Craig Beach.
The charity plans to deliver 13 mask kits to the Youngstown Fire Department.
In addition, Never Muzzled plans to deliver kits to first responders in Braceville, Columbiana, Kinsman, Beaver, Boardman, Campbell, Canfield, Green, Hubbard, Liberty, Poland, Springfield, and Struthers.
Never Muzzled was formed to help local pets in Trumbull and Mahoning Counties of Ohio.
In addition to providing the oxygen masks, Never Muzzled provides solid weather resistant shelter to the outside dogs in need.
