CORTLAND, Ohio - A pair of Cortland brothers were arrested Friday after police were called to the scene of a heroin overdose.

35-year-old James Edwards faces four drug related charges while his older brother Michael, 37, is charged with felony drug possession.

Police say they came to the brothers' house on Portal Drive after a 911 call reported that Michael was unresponsive.

Responders found Michael, who later admitted to be a recovering addict, suffering from a drug overdose.  They were able to stabilize him using Narcan, a drug used to reverse the effects of opioid overdose.

A search of the premises, according to police, had already turned up a syringe and a type of baggie police say is commonly used to package heroin.

Michael, who was by this point "fine and breathing", according to police, admitted to using heroin and said that his brother James had given it to him earlier in the day.  Police say Michael also denied that the syringe belonged to him.

James then, according to the police's report, began running away from the house.  The officers on scene caught up to James and arrested him.

Police questioned James and said he admitted to both giving his brother the heroin and possessing the syringe.

James was subsequently charged with tampering with evidence, obstructing official business, corrupting another with drugs, and possessing a drug abuse instrument.
