First responders and state troopers were called out to investigate what was first reported as a plane crash in Braceville Township Thursday night.

Those arriving first on the scene found that the incident didn't involve an airplane in the traditional sense, but an aircraft known as a paramotor, which consists of a large fan and a parachute to lift the pilot off the ground.

This particular flight at an airstrip off Route 82 didn't even get off the ground during a meeting of paramotor and ultralight aircraft enthusiasts who call them themselves the “Flight Junkies.”

Officials say a pilot received a minor injury when his paramotor rolled over.

He was taken to the hospital treatment of a laceration on his arm.

The Ohio Highway Patrol says it considers the incident minor.

Powered paragliders fall into the category of ultralights, which are regulated by the Federal Aviation Administration.

According to the United States Powered Paragliding Association, those taking part in the sport are not required by law to be a certified pilot.

However, the USPPA website says that proper training is required to safely fly and navigate.
