Cigarette smokers in Pennsylvania are paying a dollar more a pack as of August 1st.

That's just one of the new taxes people in the Keystone state are paying.

Pennsylvania lawmakers passed a new budget that contains some new taxes. So, if you like to smoke while watching movies online, expect to pay more.

Businesses that are just outside Pennsylvania's border are probably the only ones who are happy about the new tax increases.

With cigarettes now a dollar more in Pennsylvania than in Ohio and the fact that the Keystone state has the highest gasoline taxes in the nation, consumers will definitely be going over the border to buy those things.

But the new taxes will hit Pennsylvania residents at home if they like to watch Netflix or buy apps for their new iPhones.

Digital downloads of videos, books, games and music are now all taxable at 6%.  That includes Sirius-XM radio and all online streaming services.

People like Fred Hoffman in Sharon say they aren't happy. "I think the legislature took the easy way out for them instead of broaching things like a fracking tax or other things like that."

If you win the lottery or hit it big at the casino, a personal income tax of 3.07% will apply for all big cash lottery winners and at the casino, those winnings will see a 2% increase for an overall 16% tax.

"The tax on the lottery, as my grandmother would say 'the poor man tax', I'm not sure they need to put more tax on that than what they get already," said Sharpsville resident Margaret Wiley.

Beth Stadtfeld of Sharon said, "The younger generation is having a hard time financially, so I don't think it's going to be feasible for any of us actually."

The next new tax that will hit smokers in Pennsylvanis takes effect on October 1st.  That's a 40% additional tax on e-cigarettes and all vaping products.
