WARREN, Ohio - A Trumbull County man has been sentenced to serve time in prison for fatally shooting his wife.

Ricky Green, 60, pleaded guilty to one count of murder when he appeared in county court on Tuesday.

In January, Green called 9-1-1 and told the dispatcher that he fired a shotgun at his wife, Janell Green as she sat in a chair at their Greene township home.

Green told the dispatcher that he shot his wife because he believed she was being unfaithful.

Green told the judge on Tuesday what he said to his wife just before he shot her: "I will give you anything you want, anything. We will sell the place, I'll give you half. We will put it on fast track. I will give you a divorce. She looked at me and said why won't you die?"

Green claims days later his wife said her boyfriend would drown him so that's when he got his gun.

he told the judge: "I watched her eyes roll back and her last breath. She got what she wanted 'cause I died right then. I died right then! Forgive me God!"

One of Janell's brothers spoke in court to call Green a liar and a murderer.

"Nice story Rick, too bad nobody is going to believe that. Obviously what you've done to our family is disgusting. And what you've done to Janelle is even more," said Craig Borsi.

Common Pleas Judge Peter Kontos sentenced Green to serve 18 years to life in prison.
