Dillard's promises 65% discounts at converted Eastwood Mall store

NILES, Ohio - Shoppers are seeing changes at an Eastwood Mall department store.
Dillard's spokesperson Julie Johnson Bull tells 21 News that the department store is being converted to a clearance center for “those seeking a bargain hunting experience.”
The clearance center at the Eastwood Mall will be supplied with merchandise from nearby full-line Dillard's stores, like the one at the Southern Park Mall.
Bull says the original prices of merchandise such as shoes, home items, fashions for men, women, and juniors will be marked down at least 65% when it arrives at the Niles clearance center.
According to the Dillard's website, clearance items marked down 65% or more cannot be returned.
Cafaro Company spokesperson Joe Bell says talks of converting the store to a different format arose after rumors spread that the store would be closing.
Bell said rumors of the store closing seemed to be originating from people who work inside the store and went on to say he didn't know why those rumors were started in the first place.
“This prompted some conversations with our executives and the Dillard's company,” Bell said. “In the course of those conversations, Dillard's mentioned they might want to convert the Eastwood Mall store into a different model.”
He mentioned that the Dillard's company brought up the idea of a clearance center.
“A lot of department store chains have been experimenting with different store models," Bell said.
Bull says the conversion to a clearance center has been underway, and should be completed in a few weeks.
She tells 21 News that Dillard's operates 21 clearance centers in 29 states.
