RAVENNA, Ohio - Shooting is all wrapped up for the movie "Fast and Furious Eight" which is set to come out next year. For the second time in those eight films, Mongoose Motorsports from Ravenna will be on display.
"To get the opportunity to be in a movie, I mean that's a once in a lifetime opportunity and now it's hit us a second time," said Gary Krause.
This summer, Gary and Tricia Krause and their team sent a car to the set of “Fast and Furious Eight,” but the whole experience really started with one phone call leading up to "Fast Five."
"He asked, 'How many cars can I have?' I said, well basically as many as you can write a check for. I mean, why? Normally, people don't order more than one $80,000 car at a time. He said, well I need five cars and I need them in eight weeks," Gary said.
"No one calls to order five cars at one time, you know what I mean? The next day when we got a Federal Express delivery from Universal Studios FF5, we were like oh my gosh, this is real!" Tricia said.
That's also when the reality of the order really hit. It was an incredibly quick timeline to make five custom cars. Usually, it takes at least four-to-six weeks to build one. On top of that, Universal Studios ended up ordering four more.
"It was all-nighters; the things that you see on TV on these reality shows. This wasn't filmed, and it actually was real. Sleeping on the floors and calling everybody you can to help you try and get through this," Gary said.
In the end, they made every deadline and got their first moment on the big screen, along with an international following as a result.
Order number two came just a couple months ago. Even though part of the “Fast Eight” film was shot in Cleveland, it turned out that wasn't where this particular car was headed.
"We were so excited because we thought the same thing. They're right here in Cleveland, that's such an easy thing, you know? No, when they said Georgia, Gary was like 'Georgia?' ok," said Tricia.
Either way, it's another opportunity and another feather in their cap.
Mongoose has a big event coming up this Wednesday, August 31st, expecting around 1,000 cars for Octane Night. The Ravenna Rumble will begin at 7:00 p.m when every car will fire up its engine at the same time.
