GIRARD, Ohio - You can add Girard to the list of police departments around the country whose officers are keeping an eye peeled for people dressed as clowns.

The Girard Police Department advised officers on Monday to keep an eye out for clowns riding in a pickup truck.

A notice is posted at the department along with a photo of someone wearing a clown mask, peering from the window of a red Dodge Ram pickup truck.

According to the notice, two people dressed as clowns were seen inside the truck which was traveling behind a school bus on Monday.

Police say when the bus turned away, the truck did not follow.

The truck stopped along the 300 block of East Liberty Street where children were playing, according to the note.

A witness followed the truck to Belmont Avenue and took pictures of the clowns and the vehicle.

There is no information that the people in the truck made any verbal or other threats to anyone who saw them.

However, Girard police have advised officers working all shifts to watch for the truck and attempt to identify those inside.

Girard School Superintendent David Cappuzzello tells 21 News he is aware of the incident and says that police are on the lookout for the truck.

Stories of clown sightings around the country have been circulating over social media platforms, spurring concern in some communities.
