Stricter texting and driving penalties take effect in PA

Texting and driving could land you in jail in Pennsylvania if you're found guilty of a fatal texting and driving accident.
Governor Tom Wolfe was at the Scott Township volunteer fire department near New Castle Friday to officially sign Daniel's Law.
The new law will allow judges to sentence those found guilty of texting and driving accidents that result in someone's death to five years in prison. And if the accident leads to serious injuries that people could get two years.
The law is named after firefighter Daniel Gallatin who was killed by a texting driver in May 2013 while riding his motorcycle.
The driver responsible spent just 60 days in jail and paid a $200 fine.
Daniel's family and fellow motorcycle enthusiasts fought to create and help pass the law in order to help save lives.
His daughter, Michelle Gallatin-Baughman, says, "This is how our community works you support one another. You have each others back and with the biker community, the firemen, the dispatchers, the honor guard, we can't thank them enough."
The law will take effect immediately in Pennsylvania and while lawmakers struggle to keep up with ever changing technologies the Governor hopes other states will adopt similar legislation to help make their state safer.
