CANFIELD, Ohio - Police say a Pennsylvania man has confessed to stealing World War Two era military medals from the Canfield War Vet Museum, and selling them for a fraction of their value.
John Sizemore, 47, of Conneaut Lake, Pennsylvania, was arrested at the museum earlier this month after employees identified him as the man who visited the museum on two previous weekends when 24 German Army medals turned up missing.
The officer on the scene also identified Sizemore as the man whose image was recorded on the museum's surveillance system earlier.
Police found that Sizemore was carrying a screwdriver, and arrested him on a charge of possessing criminal tools.
When questioned by a detective, police say that Sizemore admitted taking the medals from a display case.
He says he then advertised the medals on Craigslist and sold them for $380.
Museum officials place an average value on the medals of $3,489.
In addition to the criminal tools charge, Sizemore is also charged with theft.
His next court hearing is scheduled for later this month.
Sizemore has told police he will try to get the medals back from the people he sold them to.
