Police say a North Canton woman suspected of several bank robberies across Northeast Ohio is behind bars after being arrested by Liberty Township Police officers Friday night.

Officers with the department tell 21 News that shortly after 6 p.m. a manager at First National Bank on Belmont Avenue called police saying they were afraid they were about to be robbed.

According to police, the manager witnessed a woman walk in to the bank wearing a bandana over her mouth and reach into her purse. The woman never got to the robbery, however. Police say she was frightened off by the bullet proof glass inside the branch.

The bank manager was able to tell police that the woman got into a red Honda Civic and drove south on Belmont.

Police say the woman turned around at some point and was spotted, just moments later, pulling in to the Giant Eagle parking lot,

Liberty police officers reportedly stopped the woman in the parking lot and found evidence inside her purse, which included a weapon.

The woman, identified as 39-year-old Fellicia Smith, of North Canton, reportedly matches the description of a woman who has been seen robbing banks in Canfield, Austintown, Liberty and several in the Akron area.

Officials also say the Honda she was driving had stolen license plates on it from Cuyahoga County.

Smith was booked in to the Trumbull County Jail, facing charges of attempted aggravated bank robbery, and a felony charge of receiving stolen property.
