COLUMBIANA, Ohio - After some debate, Columbiana city council decided it's okay for residents to have a garden in their front yard.

The city's planning commission had asked the council to make an ordinance that would stop people from having gardens or having fruits and vegetables growing in their front yard.

"For the government even to get involved in the idea of where a garden can be planted is a waste of everyone's time and energy and I've just had enough," said Tony Dolan of Columbiana who spoke at Tuesday night's council meeting.

The concern of the planning commission was that plants growing too close to the street could cause a traffic hazard.

Current zoning already on the books does reference vegetation that obstructs the view of vehicles.
