The 18-year-old accused of murdering a Warren man appeared in court Tuesday morning for the first time since an indictment by the Trumbull County Grand Jury.
Austin Taylor Burke was arraigned on charges of aggravated murder, tampering with evidence, two counts of aggravated robbery, and a weapons specification.
Burke is accused of murdering 22-year-old Kenneth Brandon Sample of Warren. Officials have said that Burke and Sample knew each other in some form, but have not commented on the nature of their relationship.
Sample's body was found near a secluded area of the the Grand River Game Lands in Bristolville.
Speaking through text message to 21 News anchor Leslie Barrett Sample's mother responded to the indictment and court appearance by saying in part: "My heart is still so full of sorrow there's no room for hatred."
Sample was reported missing by his family earlier this month after reportedly driving a friend home to Akron.
Burke was arrested days later after reportedly robbing the Pizza Joe's restaurant in Cortland.
Investigators now say they believe that Burke used the same gun to shoot Sample in the head and to rob the restaurant.
Bond for Burke will remain at $1,000,000.
