Motorcycle riders are getting ready to rev up their engines one last time. The Fred Perry Benefit Motorcycle Run that has been a part of the community for decades is coming to an end.
For 26 years, every August, hundreds sometimes thousands of motorcycles could be seen and heard pulling out of the Austintown Plaza.
The Fred Perry Benefit Motorcycle Run for Kids has become a tradition. This Sunday will mark the 27th Annual Fred Perry Bike Run. It will also mark the final run.
"To see the people that come out, that came from day one, to the last run. To see those same people come back year after year after year. That's because my dad touched them in some kind of way," stated Perry's youngest daughter, Candy Estok.
After years of team work to carry on the legacy of their father, his grown children have decided to retire the run.
"We hate to do it, but we are getting older and we have had health issues with some of us," stated Nancy Martucci, another daughter of Perry.
They said their father spent his life working as a motorcycle mechanic. Before passing away in 1991, Perry told his children he wanted to continue helping children in need.
"He said he had 7 healthy children and he would like to give it to the kids less fortunate," stated Martucci.
This year all proceeds will be donated to the family of a young child battling a heart condition.
You can register Saturday or Sunday at the Austintown Plaza. The bikes will leave from the Austintown Plaza at 1 Sunday afternoon.
