Youngstown State University is kicking off a new academic year this week as Fall semester classes begin on Wednesday. 

IGNITE, a two-day event where students get to know other students and faculty begins at 1 p.m. on Monday. 

The event is from 1 until 9:30 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

Welcome Week at YSU also includes the annual Kilcawley Center Block Party, a Hip-Hop Dance Clinic, Student Organization Fair, Meet the Marching Pride, Puppy Palooza and more.

Stambaugh Stadium will host Zac Brown Band in concert on Thursday.

The concert is sponsored by JAC Live, Youngstown State University, The Eastwood Mall, Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC, the DeBartolo Corporation, and Huntington Bank.

Student's Banner ID number in the "Offer Code" box at the top YSU website, will unlock the $20 per ticket discount for YSU students.

Tickets are required for entrance. The gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m.

To accommodate those attending the concert, the following parking lot restrictions are in place on Thursday.

Lots closed all day:

F-80 north of Stambaugh Stadium (closed Monday thru Thursday)
M-70, M-71, M-72 and M-66 located west of Fifth Avenue
M-63 located on Lincoln Avenue west of Fifth Avenue

Lots closing early:

M-62, closed 2 p.m., vacate immediately
M-61, closed 2 p.m., vacate immediately
M-53, closed 2 p.m., vacate immediately
M-60, Fifth Avenue parking deck, closed 2 p.m., vacate by 5 p.m.
F-55, closed 2 p.m., vacate by 5 p.m.
M-50, closed 2 p.m., vacate by 5 p.m.

Additional closings are possible and will be posted at entrances.

Anyone arriving to campus for permit parking after 2 p.m. should use the M-30 parking garage on Walnut Street and additional east side parking lots.

Signs will be posted and parking services individuals will be out directing motorists to the open lots.

In addition, YSU will run a shuttle on a loop from Walnut Street, the back entrance of the Wick Avenue deck, to Lincoln Avenue.

Learn to Climb Part 1: The Basics

One of our Certified Climbing Wall Instructors will guide you in a highly interactive, hands-on clinic where you will learn the basics of climbing including holds, moves, gear, and more. The session will end with free-climb time and climbing games! Minimum/Maximum participants: 4/16. The clinic is free for students, but you must sign up for this clinic online at https://store.reccenter.ysu.edu/ and click register, or in the Andrews Administrative Offices.

United Way Day of Caring

The United Way Day of Caring is a community-wide day of volunteering. They have teamed up with several local organizations to revitalize a South Side Youngstown neighborhood. This project consists of painting, construction, landscaping, cleaning, and installing smoke detectors. Volunteers can also participate by completing tasks, odd jobs, and organizing activities for local non-profit organizations.
