STEUBENVILLE, Ohio - Police in Steubenville are releasing new details about a shooting that left a Jefferson County Judge injured, and a suspect dead.

Jefferson County Sheriff Abdalla says a video shows a car with two suspects arriving at the courthouse at 7:18 a.m. on Monday morning.

Sheriff Abdalla says the suspects waited inside the car, even driving away and coming back, in order to wait for the victim.

Jefferson County Judge Joseph Bruzzese, Jr. was shot outside the county courthouse.

During an afternoon press conference, county prosecutor Jane Hanlin named the suspect as Nathaniel Richmond.

When asked if Richmond was the father of the embattled YSU football player, Ma'Lik Richmond, Hanlin said yes. However, she would not go as far as to confirm whether the shooting was related to the 2012 rape proceedings against the younger Richmond.

Hanlin said that Nathaniel Richmond had been in court several times in front of Judge Bruzzese, as well as others.

According to court records Judge Bruzzese was the original judge who determined that a visiting judge should be appointed to oversee the case against Ma'Lik Richmond and Trent Mays, accused of raping an unconscious 16-year-old in 2012.

Sheriff Abdalla told reporters that the Richmond got out of the vehicle and fired five gunshots as he approached Judge Bruzzese, Jr. until he was near point blank range.

Abdalla also said that during the Richmond's shots, the judge pulled out his own weapon, returning fire. A nearby probation officer also stepped in, pulling a weapon.

Richmond was reportedly shot several times and killed.

Steubenville City Manager James Mavromatis tells our NBC affiliate WTOV  that Bruzzese was talking after being wounded. He was flown to a Pittsburgh-area hospital, where he was undergoing surgery.

Police say he suffered gunshot wounds to the stomach and chest areas.

Sheriff Abdalla said the shooting was a specifically targeted attack on the judge. During the emotional press conference, he said, "Force will be met with force".

"It just hurts," Abdalla said. "First thing on a Monday morning. You have a judge shot in front of his court house, and that affected me. And for people who say they're going to retaliate upsets me. This was an ambush and attempted murder.

The other man who was seen on video in the Richmond's car is not being treated as a suspect at this time.

Sheriff Abdalla said in a press conference Monday morning that the passenger never got out of the vehicle. He is being treated for a bullet wound to the leg, which Abdalla said is believed to have ricocheted off of something and hit him.

The passenger allegedly told police that he and Richmond had been drinking the night before and that he had only been told that Richmond had to be at court early in the morning.

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine issued a statement on the shooting late Monday morning saying:

“This morning, Steubenville Police requested the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation to investigate a shooting incident outside the Jefferson County Courthouse in Steubenville, in which Common Pleas Judge Joseph J. Bruzzese, Jr. was injured. A suspect in the shooting died during the incident. BCI has assigned its Special Investigations, Crime Scene, and Cyber Units to this investigation.
