WARREN, Ohio - The city of Warren will have two new officers patrolling the streets, and the mayor says the taxpayers are to thank.

Two new officers were sworn in in city council chambers Monday morning.

Warren Mayor Doug Franklin said that the hires were only possible because the community approved a police and fire levy, allowing the city to have enough money.

For the new hires, Monday's ceremony was the culmination of many years of hard work.

One of the new recruits, Jessica Gollan, told 21 News that she has dreamed of being a police officer since her friend was killed by a drunk driver when they were teenagers.

Gollan becomes just the third female officer in the Warren department.

She comes to Warren after serving part-time in smaller departments.

"I actually started policing in 2010 when it was a little bit calmer than it is now. I just fell in love with it and the risk and danger didn't deter me," Gollan said.

Marsh said he decided early in life that he wanted to be a police officer. He said he would be happy to spend his entire career in Warren and someday become a detective.

The two officers bring Warren Police Department staffing up to sixty-three.

Mayor Doug Franklin said the city is hopeful that they can hire an additional seven officers in the coming months.

Applications to join the department will be accepted Tuesday, April 24th from 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. and Saturday the 28th from 10 a.m. until noon.

Civil Service test will be given on June 9th.
