WARREN, Ohio - Just days before he was scheduled to go on trial, a Cortland man pleaded guilty to several charges, including rape and gross sexual imposition involving a five-year-old.
Twenty-seven-year-old Andrew Austin pleaded guilty on Friday to two counts of rape and three counts of gross sexual imposition. As a result, Trumbull County Judge Wyatt McKay ordered Austin to spend at least 15 years behind bars.
Austin was indicted one year ago on six charges, alleging that he raped a five-year-old girl several times during the spring and summer of 2017.
Austin was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 15 years, as well as five years each for three counts of gross sexual imposition, which must be served concurrently.
In 2014, Austin pleaded guilty to theft in Trumbull County court after stealing from a charity.
Prosecutors said when Austin worked for Trumbull County Animal Welfare League, he used the organization's credit card to rack up $5,800 in gas charges.
