Mercer County, Pa. - New information added more sadness surrounding the death of a single mom and nurse in Mercer County.

Thirty-three-year-old Nicole Gearhart was an EMS Nurse who worked for Superior Ambulance, which responded to the crash on Route 58 Thursday.

It was heartbreaking when the crew realized the victim was one of their own.

"The crew on the scene attempted resuscitation efforts, but unfortunately they were futile," said Doug Dick, owner of Superior Ambulance

Dick says Gearhart was dedicated to her work.  "She was one of those people that could come into a situation and be upbeat but be serious and get things done when she needed to get things done."

Gearhart worked as an RN at Grove City Medical Center before deciding to get her EMS certification and joined Superior.

Gearhart recently realized her real goal to get off the ground crew and get into the air as a medical flight nurse.

"She just got hired recently at Stat MedeVak Helicopter Service as a flight nurse. So she succeeded in her goal," said Dick

In fact, Gearhart was scheduled for her first day on the job at Grove City Airport on Saturday.

At the time of the crash, her two daughters, ages six and eight, were properly restrained in the vehicle and were not seriously hurt.

A single mom, Gearhart, had stopped at the State Police Barracks in Mercer to drop off lunch for the state trooper whom she was currently dating.

She was killed in the crash a short time later.

The state police accident reconstruction team was called in to investigate the crash and that report is still pending.
