Senate race contenders visit the Valley

MAHONING COUNTY, Ohio - Both of the major party candidates for Ohio U.S. Senator were in the Mahoning Valley on Monday.
Democrat Sherrod Brown is seeking his third term in the Senate and is being challenged by Republican State Representative Jim Renacci.
Both men say jobs and the economy will drive the election.
Renacci supports the government backing away from regulations that he says strangle businesses and says the tax cut was great for the economy.
"It's causing businesses here in Ohio to expand and grow. Bringing the corporate rate down was important because it's keeping businesses here instead of going overseas," Renacci said.
But Brown points to the billions realized by GM, which then favored Mexico over Lordstown.
"Layoff the second and third shifts at Lordstown and then build a plant, I assume with those dollars, in Mexico to make a different vehicle that they could retool Lordstown to build," said Brown.
What does Renacci think about GM's actions?
"I understand why they may be downsizing, but you're right, we should be making sure they're staying here and making sure the climate is better here than in Mexico to build the Blazer," Renacci said.
On the tariff debate, Renacci says he's not an advocate of starting a trade war but supports the President in taking a stand against unfair trade treatment.
"I think what the President is doing right now, he's in a negotiation period. So let him get through the negotiations and see where it ends up," Renacci said.
Brown says the target should be China and other cheaters, not our allies.
