Wellsville food pantry relocated after thieves clear it out

The food pantry outside of Wellsville Police Department has been relocated to inside the building.
Wellsville Police set out a cabinet of food containing cereal, peanut butter, and other items outside of the station so that local kids with empty stomachs would have easy access to food while school is out.
Last week, someone cleared out the pantry.
Officials say the pantry was only outside for a short time.
Statistics show one in every three Wellsville residents live in poverty.
Charles Gains of East Liverpool says, "They should be able to have it out here so the kid's don't have to go to the police station or a facility to get food."
People in the community say the thief or thieves should be ashamed.
"It was a good thing what Wellsville Police did for the children, putting food out there. There are a lot of needy people in this town and for someone to steal it, I would consider that pretty low," says Robert Davis, a Wellsville visitor.
Children or their parents who need food for kids, can go inside the police station and ring a bell.
If police are not there to answer, they can walk to the fire station and the firefighters will call the police to respond.
Police believe it's a solution to still get food to hungry kids while keeping the thieves away.
