Sign confusion forces motorists down the wrong way of Downtown Youngstown street

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - It's caused a headache for downtown Youngstown motorists since it's been put up.
"I didn't really realize that the road was so closed as closely as it is up here and then I realized, 'Oh my gosh, how am I going to turn around.' There's not a lot of direction, it's really frustrating," said Amanda Bundy of Poland.
A sign posted on Phelps Street downtown alerts drivers that the one-way road is only open to local traffic in between Boardman and Fronts Street. Motorists are then forced to turn around in the middle of the road because the second half of the stretch of Phelps was also closed off.
"No outlet would be great and block it at the intersection as all these guys are about to find out right now. Block the intersection completely at Phelps," suggests Bunday.
After several complaints into our newsroom about the road, we reached out the public works department who said they were unaware of the issue or that the second half of Phelps was closed but would look into it and resolve it shortly.
Our cameras caught these cars forced to back up on to Boardman Street almost hitting oncoming traffic. Another car was backing up but didn't notice the couple walking right behind his car crossing the road.
The signs were taken down and the road opened later Tuesday afternoon.
