Follow the signs and you'll be fine. That's the message from PennDOT to drivers who say they're confused by the detour around construction work on East State Street.

21 News spoke with drivers earlier this week who told us when they are traveling east, away from downtown Sharon they don't know what to do.

Because of construction, only westbound traffic is being allowed along East State Street.

NOTE: Officials say State Street will be open in both directions for Saturday's WaterFire event

Confused drivers who were turning around in the Daffin's Candies lot can't do that anymore since some barriers along State Street have been moved west of the store.

Although a PennDOT spokesperson tells 21 News that they have been working with Daffin's to resolve traffic issues, she says that the reason the barrier was moved to allow workers to perform drainage work in the area.

PennDOT's Jillian Harry believes the confusion is coming from drivers who have tried to drive around the road closed signs instead of following the detour directions.

Eastbound traffic on East State Street is being detoured up Sharpsville Avenue, through Hall Avenue, West Ridge Avenue, South Seventh Street, West Main Street, South Walnut Street, South Mercer Avenue to North Buhl Farm Drive.

The detour is scheduled to continue through November.
