Congressman Tim Ryan has announced a grant award of $41,250 to the Alliance Fire Department.

The funding comes from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program of the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Department of Homeland Security.

The AFG Program is to award grants to fire departments, nonaffiliated EMS organizations, and state fire training academies to enhance their ability to protect the health and safety of the public.

Congressman Ryan says federal investments are critical to our first responders.

"For 125 years, the men and women of the Alliance Fire Department have put their lives on the line every single day. The least we can do to show our gratitude is to ensure they have the proper equipment, infrastructure, and training to stay safe and do their jobs well. I congratulate Fire Chief Jason Hunt for his hard work in obtaining this grant," Ryan said.

Alliance Fire Chief Jason Hunt comments on how pleased he is to have support on grant opportunities.

"The diesel exhaust elimination system we were awarded, will make the working environment of our firefighters a safer and healthier place. It represents a step forward in lowering carcinogenic exposures while in the fire station," said Chief Hunt.
