State Police have filed a new charge against the man who almost became the Mayor of Sandy Lake Borough.

Thirty-five-year-old William Consiglio has been charged with witness intimidation after police say he paid a co-defendant in a criminal case not to testify against him.

Consiglio lost his mayoral bid last November after he was charged in connection with a burglary investigation.

State Police say Consiglio convinced someone to give money to 36-year-old Jesse Swaney of Meadville to prevent him from giving testimony against Consiglio in the case. Swaney had already pleaded guilty for his part in the crime

Swaney died on March 10, three days after the alleged transaction.

Consiglio, who is still waiting for his trial, was defeated for Sandy Lake Mayor in November by the man who he beat in the Republican primary election.

Dan Hemminger came back into the race as a write-in candidate, beating Consiglio by a vote of 99-34.
