Niles Red Dragons | Players: 54 | Offense: 6 | Defense: 5 | Seniors: 9

The last time the Niles football program had a had a winning record was 2012. That season they went to the playoffs and finished 8-3.

There's a new sheriff in town, Niles graduate Jim Parry who wants to instill that winning tradition once again.

Parry has been an assistant coach for many years and a one time head coach at Mathews.  He returns to his alma mater and welcomes a good nucleus back, especially on offense.

"Starts with Rob Savin. He'll be a four-year starter both ways for the team. He's emerged as a leader for us. He'll be one of the better running backs in the area. Got a couple senior lineman up front, with Jarvis and Harper, again trying to step into that leadership role and then. Big junior and sophomore classes. We're really looking forward to those kids to take that step," said coach Jim Parry

The Dragons may be young but the cupboard is not bare.

"Senior Jason Gibson is undoubtedly the leader of this football team. He'll be out there playing for us Friday night one way or another. Whether it's at quarterback or anywhere else on the field, he's that type of kid," Parry said.

Defensively they will be raw and young but their special weapon could be special teams.

"A strong emphasis on the kicking game with Chase Sudzina. He may be the best kicker in the area. Utilize that tool, control the clock and want to get into the fourth quarter and see what happens with a young football team," Parry said.

Niles starts the season at home against Girard on Thursday, August 23.
