Parents of missing Warren man in Washington grateful for search efforts

Cougar, WA. - Monday night, the search for a Warren man near Mount St. Helens closed out its third day.
Matthew Matheny was in Washington visiting friends. It was a lot of hanging out and sightseeing. Nobody could have imagined the week turning into this.
His family and friends are extremely worried about Matheny's well being, but at the same time grateful for everything law enforcement and search teams are doing.
Carney and Linda Matheny, Matt's parents, tell 21 News anchor Derek Steyer that the Cowlitz County Sheriff's Office runs a search and rescue unit that has been amazing. They say everyone is kind and professional and they are leaving no stone unturned. Dogs, drones and grid maps.
They say Matt's friends have enlisted their friends to help out and the turnout has been amazing.
So far, they still have no clues though other than where the car was parked.
According to Matt's friend, Michael Bush, Matt borrowed Bush's car on Thursday to check out Mount St. Helens. He parked the car at Blue Lake Trail Head. He never returned that night.
"Didn't get too alarmed, thought he was staying at a hotel or something," said Bush.
When Matheny still hadn't returned by Friday morning, Bush alerted authorities. The Subaru was found on Saturday.
I think he was just out for a look and must have gotten turned around off the trail somehow," said Bush.
Bush says Matheny is not an avid outdoorsman and was believed to be wearing only a t-shirt, shorts and flip flops and didn't have any food with him.
"It's a gut punch knowing how unprepared he was for spending one night, much less several nights out here," said Bush.
Despite the lack of clues, family and friends remain optimistic.
"We have another full day tomorrow, we're going to get out here bright and early and do everything we can until we find him."
