YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Thousands of dollars have been raised for a local hospital thanks to the annual Meritage of Miracles fundraiser.

About 200 people came together to support Akron Children's Hospital Mahoning Valley at Stambaugh Auditorium on Sunday afternoon.

Director and founder of the event, Michelle Sergie, said all of the proceeds go toward the Palliative Care Program at Akron Children's Mahoning Valley.

"Personally, I started to volunteer when I was 19 in palliative care. The kids have just completely inspired me and I wanted to do more for them," said Sergi.

Organizers say the event is in its fifth year and has raised more than $130,000 for Akron Children's Hospital Mahoning Valley.

Sergi says she plans to keep the event going annually.
