LIBERTY TWP, Ohio - The Trumbull County Educational Service Center (TCESC) celebrated the opening of its new special education unit located at Liberty Schools on Tuesday.

According to a news release, the Learning Center has six classrooms specific to the needs of Trumbull County public school students with multiple disabilities and emotional disturbances.

"We look forward to providing this service to students in Trumbull County who have special needs.  The Learning Center will create connections between our students, our educational programming, special education services and mental health counseling.  This unique environment will foster independence among our students.  Our hope is that students who attend The Learning Center develop the skills necessary to successfully transition to other school program environments," said TCESC Pupil Services Director Kathleen Vilsack in the news release.

Before this school year, the special education classrooms were housed in different school districts throughout Trumbull County.

In partnering with Liberty Schools, TCESC has been able to get all of these classrooms in the same building.

The news release informs that this move allows the TCESC to provide a higher level of service to students, including on-site mental health counselors and other educational services such as speech, physical and occupational therapies.

The Learning Center will also help teachers and aides to work together, bettering their day-to-day instruction.
