COLUMBUS, Ohio - A company has been granted a provisional license to turn raw marijuana into medical marijuana in East Liverpool.

The Ohio Department of Commerce has awarded the license to FarmaceuticalRX LLC to process marijuana at a location on Harvey Avenue.

FarmaceuticalRX spokesperson Rebecca Meyers tells 21 News that the company also has a license to dispense medical marijuana to the public from a site on Dresden Avenue and is still seeking approval to cultivate marijuana.

Meyers says the processing facility would convert marijuana plants into patches, pills, creams and other forms of cannabis used for medicinal purposes.

To date, FarmaceuticalRX is the only venture that has been granted a processing license in the Valley.

The state can authorize up to 40 processors. Four more licenses remain to be granted.

The state had planned to have the medical marijuana program underway by this month, but authorities are still finalizing plans.
