COLUMBIANA, Ohio - A ceremonial ribbon cutting and water drinking welcomed the new Columbiana Water Treatment Plant.

The water plant was last built in 1934 and was in need of repair with parts breaking and some parts were also impossible to replace.

The mayor said it was becoming more costly to replace than repair.

Bryan Blakeman, mayor of Columbiana, told 21 News, "Columbiana right now is having an influx of growth. there has been a lot of economic development going on, and this triples our capacity of daily water, which allows us to expand the city and new business industry, and create a path for growth in the future."

The project started in 2016 and the facility went online in June.
