NEW CASTLE, Pa. - On the day a third suspect was named in connection to a triple homicide in New Castle Tuesday, the stepmother of one of the victims, 31-year-old Nichole Pumphrey, spoke to 21 News.

"It's just a blur. It just feels like a nightmare right now," said Amy Pumphrey.

The last three days have been a time of grief, shock, and unthinkable sorrow for Amy and her family.

"It's just flashbacks in my head right now. Pictures I'm never going to get out of my head that we've seen," she says.

They're trying to make sense of the loss of Nichole, her 10-year-old daughter Amariyah, and 31-year-old Lawrence Cannon.

Police say they all died at the hands of 19-year-old Steven Procopio.

"I know they were friends before, acquaintances," said Amy Pumphrey. "I'd seen him there a few times. He seemed like a nice kid to me. Was quiet, never bothered anybody."

Police say a second suspect, Jody Hammer, withheld critical information from them while helping the third suspect, Anthony Cooper, flee the state.

As much as it's a time of sadness for Pumphrey's family, it's also a time of uncertainty and confusion.

Police haven't gone public with a motive, and Amy said she can't imagine what could've led to this.

She couldn't tell us much about the relationship between her stepdaughter and Lawrence Cannon.

"(They were) just friends, I think," she said. "Not too sure about him, don't really know him too well."

Amy says 10-year-old Amariyah died a hero because she kept the other three children in the house at the time of the murder upstairs while she went to check on a noise she'd heard.

It's those precious memories that are now all she's left with.

"Nichole's laugh is the main thing I'm going to miss," Amy said. "And Amariyah's smile."

But amid all the pain and unanswered questions, there's one thing Amy Pumphrey does know; that she wants Steven Procopio to answer for his alleged role in the murders.

"I hope he rots in hell. I hope they give him the death penalty and I hope he gets what he deserves for my granddaughter," Pumphrey said.
