TJX finalizing plans to break ground on Lordstown plant

LORDSTOWN, Ohio - The final plans are in motion to bring a multi-million dollar distribution center to Trumbull County.
Lordstown Mayor Arno Hill says TJX is finalizing paperwork to be able to break ground on the new facility in the spring.
TJX HomeGoods is planning to build a $100 million, 1.2 million-square-foot distribution center, which will potentially create 1,000 new jobs for the Valley.
Some neighbors living near the property launched a successful petition drive to challenge the zoning approval and put the issue before voters, which resulted in a special election.
Those neighbors have expressed concerns about dust, lights, noise, water runoff and increased traffic, and have unsuccessfully pushed for alternate locations for the project.
The developers responded to the opposition by offering to install noise buffers, LED lighting directed toward the building, road rerouting, traffic lights and a retention pond for rainwater runoff.
The mayor says the goal is for the facility to be up and running by 2020, and he expects the company to ask for a 75 percent abatement for ten years.
In the first year, a $500,000 dollar donation will be made to the school. The school district should then receive about $405,000 each year after the plant is up and running, Hill said.
