AUSTINTOWN TWP., Ohio - U.S. Marshals and Austintown police surrounded an apartment building near Fitch High School before arresting a fugitive.
Authorities learned that a man wanted in the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania area for drug and other crimes was inside the Hillbrook Apartments.
Marshals were making the arrest at around 2 pm Wednesday just as school was letting out at the nearby Austintown School campus. A driveway from the school was blocked off.
A Crisis Response Team was called when the suspect, Maurice Ross, resisted surrender telling authorities to come and get him.
After a standoff that lasted less than a half hour, a negotiator called the suspect on a phone and convinced him to come outside, where he was arrested.
A spokesman for Austintown Schools says all four buildings on campus were placed on what they called soft lockdown during the standoff.
The soft lockdown was lifted at approximately 2:30 pm Dismissal times were not affected by the soft lockdown, according to school officials.
Ross, 37, is charged with manufacturing with intent to deliver dangerous drugs and fleeing from police.
