A former Trumbull County corrections officer is on the other side of the jail cell after being arrested on a domestic violence and drug paraphernalia charge.

Chief Deputy Joseph Dragovich said 25-year-old Brett Garretson was arrested and charged after an incident on Christmas Eve where he allegedly used a knife to threaten his girlfriend during a fight.

Dragovich said Garretson only worked for the Trumbull County Sheriff's Office for a short period and was fired as a corrections officer following the incident.

Garretson remains jailed on a $125,000 bond.

According to Niles court records, Garretson pleaded not guilty to both charges.

A pre-trial hearing is set for January 16.
