J.C. Penney stores in the Valley are not included in the latest round of plans to close more of its 860 remaining stores this year.
A news release issued on Thursday said that the retailer plans to close18 full-line stores which include three locations previously announced in January, as well as another nine home and furniture stores.
A spokesperson for the company tells 21 News that none of the four stores in the Valley are included on the list.
The department store chain currently operates stores at the Southern Park Mall in Boardman, Eastwood Mall in Niles, Shenango Valley Mall in Hermitage, and in the Austintown Plaza.
The company says the stores being closed either require significant operating funds or are underperforming.
J.C. Penney says employees who will be impacted by the closures will receive separation benefits and assistance finding new employment.
