Valley Congressman Tim Ryan is praising new development in Lordstown after TJX Homegoods announced the completion of its purchase of approximately 290 acres of land in the village.
TJX Homegoods will build a distribution center that will create approximately 1,000 jobs once the facility is fully operational.
“After many months of meetings, debates, campaigns and litigation, I am excited that it is finally time to get construction underway on TJX Homegoods. This new facility will be a huge boon for Lordstown and our entire community at a time when we need it the most," said Congressman Ryan.
Some Lordstown residents voiced opposition to the project, asking that the company consider a location other than its proposed site on Ellsworth-Bailey Road.
That led to a ballot initiative to deny zoning for the project and, when that measure failed, a court battle.
“This was about teamwork, so many people have worked together to make sure this project came together, and today it is finally becoming a reality. I would like to give a special thank you to Senator Sean O’Brien, Representative Glenn Holmes, Mayor Hill of Lordstown, James Dignan at Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber and Jobs Ohio," said Ryan.
The groundbreaking for the distribution center is scheduled for early April.
