GREENVILLE, Pa. - It can be tough owning a small business in 2019, but one Greenville business owner may have cracked the code to make sure dozens of customers walk into the store every year.

Her trick?

Hosting a Peep Show in her storefront for the past 37 years.

"You'd be surprised who walks through these doors and gets a surprise," said the owner of Hurlbert Hardware, Jan Hurlbert.

Every April folks chirp about what's inside the store.

It's a peep show in the most literal sense.

"You can peep in the window and look at the animals," laughed Hurlbert.

"You can peep at the peeps, or you can peep at the pigs, or you can peep at the goats, or you can peep at the rabbits," said Hurlbert.

Year after year owner Hurlbert fills the storefront with baby animals from local farms.

People can peep in to see them from outside, or come in and hold the animals themselves.

Hurlbert said it's not just about tradition. It's about getting little ones into the store so they can learn about small business and make a positive connection.

Like "cluckwork," the little ones come in.

Their reactions? Well, Jan says that's the best part.  "The joy of the people who come to see it; that's the best part."

Spotting the joy is just as easy as spotting the big signs for the Peep Show downtown.

The Peep Show is open to everyone during store hours.

You can go for free thru Saturday, April 20th.
