GOSHEN TWP., Ohio - A Salem man has been charged with OVI after allegedly driving a lawnmower on a street in Goshen Township.

The incident happened on Saturday around 3:45 pm near the area of Calla and Stratton Roads.

According to the report, 53-year-old Martin McGuire was found lying in the grass on his back.

Police say witnesses followed McGuire and told police that McGuire was "leaning way over to the side of the tractor."

The witnesses told police that they turned around and came back and McGuire was laying in a ditch.

Officers asked McGuire what was going on and he told them that he had been drinking.

According to the report, McGuire asked officers if they were going to kill him.

Police say they asked him to stand by himself and he fell.

Officers say McGuire had hit his head when he fell, but he told officers that he wasn't in pain.

According to the report, McGuire started to cry and tell officers about the problems in his life.

Police say they arrested McGuire for OVI and took him to the Salem Police Department for a breath sample.

"Anything on a public roadway, any type of motor vehicle or even a bicycle," said Officer Ryan McBride. "The issue is it's a safety hazard for the person operating the vehicle and for others."

Reports say McGuire had a blood alcohol reading of 0.205g/210l and was transferred back to Goshen police for booking.

McGuire was given a citation for OVI and was transported to the Mahoning County Jail.

He is due in court on Thursday.
