Home is where the heart is for Fowler quilt shop owner

FOWLER TWP., Ohio - Home is where the heart is. Maybe that term is a little over-used, but that exact path is what's led one local designer and now author to a dream career in her hometown.
Ten years ago, the old schoolhouse that sat on her family's property in Fowler became the permanent home to Kori Turner-Goodhart's dream business. She left her job in D.C. and took a chance.
"I just felt that I wasn't the corporate ladder kind of girl, and so I just decided to be me and choose me," said Turner-Goodhart.
She opened Olive Grace Studios, a quilt shop with a name that's very much part of her story.
"The name of the shop are my two grandmothers who I sewed with as a little girl," said Turner-Goodhart. "Olive was my dad's mother and Grace is my grandma, Janet Grace."
At the time, she had no idea just where this would take her, although she was determined to make it work.
"I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it and that a small town girl could still be in the small town, but have big town dreams," said Turner-Goodhart.
Her work started getting published in magazines and earlier this month her first book came out, "Stitched from the Heart," a name that really sums up how this dream made the transition to reality.
"It was a really fast, intense process," said Turner-Goodhart. "It may not seem like a lot, the nine projects, but all my work I do by hand so all the stitching is hand embroidery, all the applique is hand done, so it's a very long, tedious process in a very short amount of time."
Taking her from designer to entrepreneur and now author.
"I have to say, from the girl who really had a hard time reading in school, I am now a book author. That's really, really crazy," said Turner-Goodhart.
So this little building represents more than just the realization of a dream for Kori. It's living proof that if you follow your dreams, anything can happen.
"This little dream of mine would never have come true without all the heart that is here," said Turner-Goodhart.
Heart that's on display everywhere you look.
You can find the book at her shop where she also offers classes, or buy it at a variety of places online.
