GROVE CITY, Pa. - Friday was a big night for Avengers fans and people who live in Grove City.

The Guthrie Theatre held its grand re-opening and showed "Avengers: Endgame" to a sold-out crowd and even added another showing.

It was a chance for people to see this film that is already breaking records at the box office in a historic space that has undergone a massive renovation.

The iconic landmark nicknamed the "Queen of Broad Street" re-opened after being closed for nearly a year.

"So this year we went through a massive renovation renewal process," said Spencer Folmar, President of Veritas Arts.

The sixth owner, a nonprofit called Veritas Arts, put in a VIP balcony with 50 powered recliner seats and added a new concession stand offering hot foods.

"Whenever we inherited the theater it was Pepto Bismol pink walls and brown curtains. So the very first thing we did is tear down those brown curtains and paint over all the pink. What we've tried to do in all of our renovations was to restore it to the 1920s art deco look," Folmar said.

"Having the theater downtown helps all of us. It helps with our shops, it helps with our restaurants, and it's such a huge draw because there are so few theaters like this in the United States anymore. So we're not just lucky we are blessed. This is a wonderful place to have," said Lisa Pritchard with the Olde Town Grove City Board and a local gift shop owner.

The next generation is already enjoying the new seats. The 7 pm showing sold out and the theater added another showing at 10:30 pm.

Grant Grossman of Grove City has been waiting a year to see "Avengers: Endgame."

"It's been exciting," he said about waiting to see this latest movie.

The Guthrie is also set to host a film festival this fall and live performances.
