YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A Youngstown woman has been sentenced to prison for a shooting death on the city's South Side.

Twenty-eight-year-old Shayla Adams was scheduled to go on trial Monday on one count of murder with an added specification for using a firearm.

Instead, Adams pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter with a firearms specification.

When police were called to investigate a report of an argument in March of last year, they found 56-year-old Richard Banton dead inside a Hudson Avenue home.

A police report from the incident says Adams reported that a weapon discharged during an argument between the two.

Common Pleas Court Judge Anthony D'Onofrio immediatly sentenced Adams to eight years in prison and was ordered to pay $3,000 in restitution.
