COLUMBIANA, Ohio - Columbiana Police have charged the driver whose truck ran into a Columbiana business early Wednesday morning.
The driver, 46-year-old Robert Woodside, faces a charge of failure to control after his truck collided with the Wine Connection.
Police say Woodside was treated for minor injuries they described as mostly cuts and bruises at Mercy Hospital in Youngstown after the accident.
Rescue squads were called out to the area just west of the Oakmont plaza on State Route 14 just after 7:00 a.m. where a driver was trapped in a truck.
First responders had to be extra careful because, in addition to knocking over bottles of liquor and cigarette lighters, the truck was leaking fuel.
It took rescuers about a half hour to remove Woodside from the truck owned by the Pittsburgh-based Fishman Finishing Solutions.
Columbiana Police Detective Ryan Pike told 21 News that the driver appeared to be in good condition considering what he had been through.
Investigators are trying to find out if the driver fell asleep behind the wheel.
Damage to the store is extensive. The EZ Lube Express which is next to the Wine Connection was not damaged but is expected to remain closed through Wednesday because the crash cut power to the business, according to police.
