YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Cuts could be coming to the Youngstown Fire Department.

City Council's Safety Committee is scheduled to meet Thursday. The agenda notes a proposed reduction of fire positions.

A source tells 21 News the proposal may call for the elimination of some battalion chiefs through attrition. These cuts would be in exchange for new radios, which has been a concern of the firefighters union for more than a year. The union has blamed the injury of two firefighters on the working condition of the department's current radios. The concern over these radios is scheduled for arbitration.

In advance of the meeting, we reached out to members of the safety committee who said they have not yet been informed of any specific details.
