YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The son of a former Youngstown police chief pleaded guilty Tuesday morning to charges stemming from a shooting on Interstate 680 last year.

Jared F. Hughes, 30, the son of former Youngstown Police Chief Jimmy Hughes, plead guilty to two felony charges including the discharge of a firearm on or near prohibited premises and improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle.

Police said the shooting stemmed from a 2018 road rage incident where then 18-year-old Kailie Weimer was shot in her leg after a bullet pierced through her vehicle door.

A 17-year-old female was also in the car at the time.

His sentencing is set for August 30.
