ERIE, Pa. - One year ago Wednesday, Bishop Lawrence Persico gave his first response to the release of a grand jury report that investigated sexual abuse to children by members of six Catholic Diocese in Pennsylvania.
Since then, the Diocese of Erie created an Independent Survivors Reparation Fund that 52 survivors have applied to.
Twenty-three claims totaling $3 million has been paid out.
The statement from Bishop Persico says that some have waited until the final week to apply to the fund.
Bishop Persico says that he will release a final report on the fund once the last claims are brought to closure.
A day of prayer is also being planned for September 15.
