Students in Mercer County learned more about where their food comes and how to make healthier choices this afternoon.

The students were joined at the Food Warehouse of Mercer County by Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture Russell Redding in celebration of "Farm Day."

Present at the event were local dairy and vegetable farmers, who gave the students hands-on lessons about the food they eat.

Also, as part of the day, the food bank shows how they feed people in need.

"They bring it into the food bank, which I think is a really great idea. Because it makes the connection to what is behind the wall of feeding hungry people in this county and this state," Redding said.

Farm Day is a five-day event expected to reach over 700 first graders.
